Crisis Intervention Team Training (CIT)
Please contact Diane Pfaff, Community Services Manager, for information on CIT Trainings.
The Crisis Intervention Team Training is an innovative community-based approach to helping law-enforcement deescalate situations with those with mental illnesses. This training helps officers recognize the signs of someone in crisis and get them the help they need rather than going to jail. The Athens CIT training has been held for sixteen years and over this time 400 officers have been trained.
This year the training was held at the Dairy Barn November 12th-16th. First responders from ten different entities ranging from police and sheriff’s departments to university and college police to jail and correctional facilities were trained. Daily and final evaluations are always positive.
