NAMI/Athens is a volunteer organization, members can choose to participate in a variety of NAMI activities and are invited to be part of local, state and federal advocacy efforts.
NAMI/Athens provides support, advocacy and educational services for families and friends of individuals with illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression.
NAMI /Athens is an affiliate of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
NAMI/Athens offers the following services:
- Advocacy to improve the quality of life (jobs, housing etc.) for persons receiving mental health treatment.
- A voice to influence the way mental health services are delivered.
- 12-week educational program for family members to learn more about mental illness, treatment and coping skills.
- Educational materials featuring information about serious mental illness.
- Information on advancements in treatment and research.
- Monthly meeting with informational speakers and programs.
- Support groups for family members and friends of persons receiving mental health treatment.
Local office business hours are 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
