National Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Athens

This agency provides supported, advocacy and educational services for families and friends of individuals with illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression. NAMI of Athens is an affiliate of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.

What kind of services can I receive?

Advocacy to improve the quality of life (jobs, housing etc.) for persons receiving mental health treatment.

A voice to influence the way mental health services are delivered.

A 12-week educational program for family members to learn more about mental illness, treatment and coping skills.

Educational materials featuring information about serious mental illness.

Information on advancements in treatment and research.

Monthly meeting with informational speakers and programs.

Support groups for family members and friends of persons receiving mental health treatment

How do I get help?.

Call the office at (740) 594-5000 during the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday. A family volunteer is often available at (740) 592-4955. The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill offers information and assistance at 1-800-950-6264.

What can I expect?

NAMI of Athens is a volunteer organization and member can choose to participate in a variety of NAMI activities. Members are invited to be part of local, state and federal advocacy efforts. Support is available for families and friends of individuals with serious mental illness.
